The Digital ID Act commenced on 1 December 2024,  please read our article on what's changing for more information.

Choosing a provider

There are many digital ID providers (such as apps) available to choose from. It's important to understand what their different service offerings are and how they manage your personal information. You will need to check your provider if it works with the services you are looking to use it with.

Accredited providers

Australia’s Digital ID System is made up of providers who have taken the extra step of becoming accredited through the voluntary Accreditation Scheme. This means they have chosen to be regulated giving you confidence that they meet strict rules and standards for:

  • privacy protection
  • security
  • usability
  • accessibility
  • risk management
  • fraud control and more.

To see a full list of accredited providers please see the Digital ID accredited entities register.

Look out for the Digital ID accreditation trustmark

From 1 December 2024, accredited providers can display the Digital ID accreditation trustmark.

The trustmark helps you to identify which providers have been tested and meet the strict accreditation standards.

Accessing government services

Different providers will provide access to different services. If you are looking to access a service provided by the Australian Government you will need to use a provider who is a part of the Australian Government Digital ID System.
